Commercial Loan Underwriter - EECU

Texas Business Lenders Group, LLC, is seeking an experienced Commercial Loan Underwriter. Based in Fort Worth, we are a Credit Union Service Organization that serves the Member Business Lending functions for multiple Credit Unions primarily in Texas. We provide underwriting and credit analysis, loan documentation, and servicing for commercial loans of our client credit unions. This full time position will be responsible for performing thorough analyses of credit union commercial business loan requests.  

Key responsibilities for this position include underwriting and analysis of commercial loan requests from CU clients, performing periodic loan reviews of existing loans, maintaining current working knowledge of business environment, current events, economic cycles and applicable regulations, miscellaneous special projects, primarily related to loan portfolio monitoring and reporting, as needed. Prepare Credit Approval Package which should completely detail the analysis of submitted loan request for Capacity, Capital, Character, Collateral, and Condition.This includes ensuring that loan request meets program and product specification or counteroffer to different product and/or program when appropriate.This position must communicate decision (approval, suspense, denial) to appropriate individuals within Credit Union, uphold fair lending practice of Texas Business Lending Group (TBLG)/Credit Union, meet target for productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.  

Periodic reviews of existing loans will also be conducted to provide the CU clients with an update of payment history, financial performance, and an assessment of other risk factors and trends affecting the credit. Candidate should be able to prioritize multiple tasks to meet customer deadlines while ensuring credit integrity of transactions. May interact with customers during due diligence stage and ongoing development of credit/financial history. Must interact with loan servicing staff to complete TBLG team concept for product delivery.  

Candidates for TBLG should possess the following knowledge and experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field 
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in commercial lending industry with experience in underwriting, processing, and servicing commercial loans 
  • Experience or training in loan participations (selling and acquiring), secondary market, and/or SBA lending are preferred 
  • Experience, formal training, and/or working knowledge of real estate third party reports including appraisal, Physical Condition Assessments, and Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments 
  • Experience analyzing tax returns, financial statements, credit reports, and other financial information from individuals and various entity types  
  • Ability to understand and implement lending guidelines to maintain an acceptable credit risk 
  • Must possess excellent financial analysis skills and be able to adapt to specific requirements of credit union industry 
  • Experience and proficiency with various software applications including Microsoft Office products, nCino, Compliance One, LA Pro, or other loan servicing software preferred 
  • Strong Excel skills and financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling experience 
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and client and member service skills 
  • Demonstrated experience in underwriting with solid written communication skills 
  • Ability to interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations 
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial lending policies
