Counselor

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County is currently accepting applications for Straight Talk Counselor. Straight Talk program serves Boys & Girls Club members ages 6 – 18.

Straight Talk Counselor will conduct clinical assessments to determine mental health needs and risk factors; create and implement clinical treatment plans; conduct one on one and group counseling sessions utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT); conduct crisis management; coordinate wrap around services; and administrative duties including documentation and compliance. Straight Talk Counselor is required to ensure counseling license remains in good standing and holds valid professional liability insurance at all times. This position may supervise part time staff and/or independent contractors. Positions requirements include provide training on various topics to organizational staff. Straight Talk Counselor is responsible for meeting all program goals and objectives successfully.

Work sites are located in low income areas, challenging neighborhoods, and growth neighborhoods. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and at times moderate or very loud. Position requires working with individuals and small to large groups of youth. There is potential for exposure to germs and illnesses. Employees are to follow all safety procedures and protocols.

Education and work experience requirements

• Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university required in Social Work or counseling
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Counselor in state of Texas required (i.e.LCSW or LPC)
• Must have a minimum of 2 years experience working with youth
• Must have a minimum of 3 years experience providing counseling or therapy

Qualifications include

• Ability to work regular program hours 
• Ensure licensure remains in good standing
• Holds personal professional liability insurance for malpractice
• Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); experience or certification preferred
• Ability to be a positive role model
• Ability to work with at-risk youth
• Ability to be patient with youth and adults
• Ability to provide one on one or group counseling/therapy
• Knowledge of community resources
• Effective organizational skills
• Knowledge of technology and software such as tablets, social media, cloud based tools, and virtual meeting tools
• Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
• Must be able to pass agency background screens and drug screen at any time
• Position requires driving personal vehicle and company vehicle. Candidates must have reliable transportation, liability insurance, satisfactory driving record and a valid driver’s license for operation of a motor vehicle relevant to carrying out duties and to be covered under the company insurance the requirement is for employee to be a minimum of age 21.

Preferred Qualifications include

• Bilingual
• Management or supervisory experience
• Experience with behavior modification and positive discipline techniques
• Knowledge of Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT); experience or certification preferred
• Knowledge or play therapy; experience or certification preferred
• Knowledge of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy; experience or certification preferred
• Work experience with or program knowledge of the Boys & Girls Clubs Movement (national or local Club)

Salary & Benefits

Minimum Salary: $52,800 (exempt full time)
