SUMMARY:House Bill (HB) 5 Update: Building Partnerships
DESCRIPTION:House Bill (HB) 5 Update\n\n	presented by David Anderson\, HillCo Partners\n\n\nLearn about implementation of HB 5 and partnership opportunities for business\, community\, and education leaders.\n\n\n\nThe 83rd Texas Legislature passed House Bill 5 (HB5) June 2013. The new law will significantly change the requirements for high school graduation\, graduation planning\, and state testing requirements at all levels.\n\n\n\nHB5 is designed to instill more flexibility in public education by enabling students to either pursue a traditional path into colleges and universities or move directly into the workforce to help fill what business leaders say is a critical skills shortage.\n\n\n\nParticipants will be provided updated or new information on the implementation of HB5 for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions\, share ideas\, and explore partnerships between districts\, charters\, two-year and four-year postsecondary institutions\, community\, and industry.\n\n\n\nDavid Anderson\, one of the primary authors of the bill and currently with HillCo Partners and former TEA Director of the Division of Curriculum and Professional Development\, will facilitate the meeting.
