\n\nWayne A. Wiegand is a F. William Summers Professor of Library and Information Studies Emeritus and professor of American Studies at Florida State University.
\n\nThe Desegregation of Public Libraries in the Jim Crow South: Civil Rights and Local Activism
\n\nAlthough much has been written about the Civil Rights Era\, there has not been a lot of discussion about the desegregation of public libraries or the activists involved. Mr. Wiegand and his wife\, Shirley Wiegand\, focus on &ldquo\;local stories to identify broader patterns of struggle&rdquo\; (LSU Press Blog). Using primary sources\, the book traces the &ldquo\;the struggle for equal access to public library services to the years before the Supreme Court&rsquo\;s 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision&rdquo\; (LSU Press Blog) all the way through &ldquo\;the eventual desegregation of Jim Crow public libraries&rdquo\; (LSU Press Blog).
