Senior Underwriter - Indirect Lending - EECU

EECU is looking for an Indirect Lending Senior Underwriter that will be responsible for making a thorough loan decision in a fast pace environment and for underwriting all auto loans that originate at an indirect dealership. The Senior Underwriter will review auto finance loan applications and render appropriate credit decisions within credit policy and in compliance with all regulations.   

Key Responsibilities for the Senior Underwriter include possessing the ability to understand and implement the lending guidelines to maintain an acceptable credit risk. Loans submitted through indirect must comply with EECU’s lending criteria and SOP’s, as well as State requirements; therefore, Underwriter must maintain working knowledge of all State and Federal guidelines, as well as EECU’s internal policies.   

The Senior Underwriter will make decisions on applications submitted by indirect dealers placing emphasis on relationships, response time, quantity of applications processed, and quality of applications approved. Additionally, the Senior Underwriter will meet or exceed agreed upon targets for ROE, volume, conversion ratios, and other business metrics, with indirect auto loan decisions exceeding 4400 in loan applications each month, and will structure approvals to maximize profit and enhance dealer relationships.   

Other responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing auto finance loan applications and make appropriate credit decisions that falls outside the scope of the Underwriter(s) authority level, along with ensuring decisions are within credit policy and compliance with all regulations
  • Providing training assistance to new hires by educating Underwriters on how to maneuver through Indirect’s software system, along with proper loan decisioning, and providing suggestions on rate changes, and or Executive Preferred Program to upper management
  • Underwriting loans for D&M leasing program, along with Lender’s protection loans due to the complexities of these loans that possesses higher risks due to LTV’s, and or credit tier constraints
  • Maintaining a charge-off /60+ delinquency portfolio of 1% or less   
  • Responsible for compliance of all Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Bribery Act, NCUA Privacy Regulations, Reg B, Reg Z, Service Members Civil Relief, and FCRA/FACTA
  • Required to attend initial and ongoing annual Bank Secrecy Act training    

Candidates for EECU should possess the following knowledge and experience:  

  • 5 years underwriting experience in Indirect Lending  
  • Must be able to provide superior service levels to compete in a highly competitive market   
  • Must possess a level of patience when dealing with dealers in order to facilitate a proper lending decision
  • Must be goal oriented and able to reach required monthly ratio expectations
  • Able to closely monitor the loan queue to ensure sound and expedited decisions timely on a daily basis
  • Requires a sales or customer service background
  • Provide prompt, accurate and courteous response to all internal and external customer inquiries
  • Must be a proven experienced underwriter in indirect lending
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have analytical skills and be computer proficient in Microsoft Suite, especially in Excel
  • Able to work a flexible extended hours schedule weekly including Saturdays
  • A high school degree or equivalent is required with a college degree or business-related education is preferred
