Substitute Secretary/ Clerk Pool 2023-2024
$94.00 per day 

Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the department head, to assist with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties such as proctoring study halls to enable them to make a contribution to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development.

Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.

Travel Requirements
Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress, and occasionally work prolonged and/or irregular hours. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The work environment is a standard office setting including standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.). Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Substitute Teacher Assistant- Special Ed Intensive Assignments  $99 per day
*Special  Ed Intensive assignments include SEAS, LINC, TAP, Day Treatment, PPCD, Jo Kelly and Boulevard Heights/Transition Center 


Substitute Incentive: 
Position Purpose
Provide assistance to the teacher in all phases of the educational process as well as meets the physical needs of students with disabilities when within the context of a special education environment.

  • Assists with the copying and distribution of documents and other materials (e.g., correspondence, bulletins, reports) for administrative, instructional and clerical staff.
  • Assists in maintaining documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference.
  • Assists with answering telephone calls, and provide information and assistance to callers.
  • Assists in distributing incoming mail appropriately.
  • Assists in maintaining inventories of supplies and materials for the purpose of ensuring items' availability.
  • Assists in supervising and managing students in non-classroom activities such as cafeteria, recess, and busing.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited High School. (Official college transcripts with 30
    college hours or more may be used in place of high school diploma. Official transcripts will be kept for your file.

  • Ability to:
    • carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
    • add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed.

    • maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
    • establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.

    • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Teacher Assistant subs will receive $8 for accepting jobs on Thursday and Friday and $4 for accepting jobs on Mondays. The additional incentive amounts are for those who are working in the classroom.
  • Assist teacher in material preparation and instruction of students, by providing one-to-one and/or group instruction; administering informal assessments; preparing worksheets, bulletin boards, tests, and charts, for students; assist in ordering materials and supplies and any materials needed for instruction.
  • At the direction of the teacher gather and maintain data on students, e.g., take roll, check assignments, punch cards, and assist with any other record keeping duties as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist teachers in implementing the developmental, behavioral, and/or academic program.
  • Monitor special education students on school campus and in community settings, (e.g., accompanies special education students to the office, bus, nurse, class, etc.; supervises special education students in classroom, cafeteria, or playground).
  • Assist students physically, perform functions as needed; move and position students as directed by teacher.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Experience working with special needs students preferred.
  • Ability to work with students with physical, emotional, educational, and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • Ability to lift students weighing in excess of 50 pounds distributed weight (when necessary).
  • Basic knowledge of educational and behavioral strategies.
  • Possess knowledge of techniques used in assisting special needs students with personal hygiene.
