Musical Entertainers & Performers
The Texas Girls' Choir (TGC) was founded in 1962 by Shirley Thompson Carter. We have had more than 25,000 members, age 8 to 18, representing 30 cities in North Texas. We began with 16 members, expanding throughout the years to the 2015 membership of 200+.
We are proud to have a diverse group of young girls from all ethnic and financial backgrounds and cultures. 40% of them are considered ''at risk'' children who would not have the opportunity to be challenged and succeed musically without the TGC.
As a member of the TGC a girl has the opportunity to travel with the choir as Goodwill Ambassadors for Texas and the United States, carrying a message of peace and friendship. Through the years, the choir has performed in over 55 countries, in major concert halls, on national and international television shows, at colleges and universities, Carnegie Hall and before royalty, provding a true sense of cultural exchange.
