How all women can tap into their individual power to create more opportunity for other women "at the table".
As the founder of the nation’s first city-funded business incubator for ventures that are 100% womenowned
and women-led, Theia Smith champions for equal access to economic self-sufficiency for women and
girls, particularly those whose talent is often overlooked and underestimated.
Theia launched the award-winning Atlanta’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative in 2014, positioning
Atlanta as the first U.S. city to financially invest in creating an incubation space and curriculum, for early
stage women entrepreneurs. Their developed a first-of-its-kind blueprint to equip women entrepreneurs
with unprecedented access in three core capital areas: financial, human and thought - to accelerate them
from ‘solopreneur’ business models, to viable high growth ventures.
Theia developed the programming, community outreach efforts and partnerships for WEI, which included
The Women’s Chamber of Commerce, Emory University Impact Investment Group, The James Beard
Foundation, WeWork and the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC). Under Theia’s leadership, WEI
received recognition from numerous national and international reports from research-leading institutes on
entrepreneurship and economic inclusion, including The Center for an Urban Future, Progress Cities, the
Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative.
Prior to launching WEI, Theia’s professional portfolio includes more than a decade of executive-level equity
and inclusion efforts in the Fortune 100 landscape, as well as intersecting innovation opportunities with the
Billion Dollar Roundtable, for women and minority-led startup ventures.
