FORT WORTH, TX (January29, 2025) – January is National Mentoring Month, a time to recognize the life-changing power of mentorship. The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth is calling on community members to step up and make a lasting impact by becoming a mentor in the YMCA Achievers and Reach & Rise® programs.
Both programs rely on dedicated volunteers to guide and support teens—whether through group mentoring in YMCA Achievers or one-on-one relationships in Reach & Rise. With the month coming to a close, time is running out to take action and help a young person in need of guidance, encouragement, and positive role models.
“Fort Worth’s future depends on the support and mentorship we offer our youth today,” said Tamyra Bishop, Reach & Rise Program Director. “Through YMCA Achievers and Reach & Rise, we provide structured, meaningful mentorship that builds confidence, leadership skills, and a vision for success. But these programs can’t happen without mentors who care.”
The Urgent Need for Mentors
Volunteers do not need prior mentoring experience—just a willingness to listen, encourage, and guide. The YMCA provides training, scheduled activities, and flexible mentoring opportunities to make participation accessible to all.
"One of the most powerful gifts you can give is your time," said Bishop. "The YMCA makes it easy for volunteers to get involved by offering training, structured activities, and flexible scheduling options to fit busy lives. Whether you can dedicate an hour a week or a few hours a month, you can make a meaningful difference in a teen’s future."
