April 1 may be April Fool’s Day, but this is no joke! Members of the public are invited to try their hand at using the da Vinci Xi® robotic surgical system on April 1, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., in the main lobby of Plaza Medical Center, 900 8th Avenue in Fort Worth.
“This is a great opportunity for people to experience from a surgeon’s perspective what it’s like to use this incredible medical technology,” Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth CEO Clay Franklin said. “We are pleased have the new da Vinci Xi® Surgical System at Plaza, which allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery through an incision roughly the size of a dime.”
The robotic surgical system seamlessly translates the surgeon’s hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments inside a patient. The robot offers patients less risk of infection, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and less scarring than traditional surgery.
The public is also invited to help name the new robot. Name suggestions can be posted as comments on Plaza’s Facebook page, facebook.com/PlazaMedical/, or dropped in the name box at the robot open house at the hospital on April 1.
