The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is “Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.'' Heart disease and stroke are America’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers. Research funded by the American Heart Association has yielded important discoveries such as CPR, pacemakers, bypass surgery and surgical techniques to repair heart defects.
